ROYAL DOCKYARD  |  NORTH YARD EXTENSION

DOCK 8

Of the three Docks between Basin 4 and Basin 5 in the North yard Extension, only Dock 8 was not accessible from Basin number 4.  Access from Basin 5, the Prince of Wales Basin, was through Caisson N, which slid into the dockside wall on the eastern side.  Like all the others it was 95 feet in width.

This most eastern of the three Docks was originally 480 feet in length but was increased to 650 feet in view of the increasing length of the modern warship.  It was 121 feet in width.  The depth of water over the sill at high water spring tide was 36 feet.

The length of the Dock could be increased by 43 feet by the use of Floating Caissons placed at the outer stops.
