ROADS AND STREETS IN OLD DEVONPORT

TAMAR ROAD

Tamar Road was located in the Morice Town district and ran westwards from the back of William Street (actually known as Mooncove Street) to Tamar Street, outside the Tamar Brewery.

In the short stretch between Mooncove Street and William Street were a general dealer (Mr H Gosling), a fish shop (Mr John Sanders), a hairdresser (Mr F J Crimp) and another general dealer (Mr W Richards).  Immediately opposite to them were a blacksmith (Mr T T Evans) and Messrs Sleeman and Son's slaughter house.  Principal businesses in the remainder of Tamar Road were Mr R Westlake, dairyman and haulier, Mr J Higman, haulier, and the timber yard and saw mills of Messrs James Brothers and Company.

There were no Licensed Landmarks in Tamar Road but the Tamar Brewery at the western end was a very prominent building.

William Street and Albert Road were the nearest places to catch tramway services.
