PEMBROKE STREET BRANCH POST OFFICE

In 1878 there was only a "Receiving Office" in Pembroke Street, from which the Mail was collected at 8.45am, 1pm, 6.10pm and 9pm on weekdays and at6.10pmon Sundays.

 

In 1889 the Pembroke Street Branch Post Office was also a Money Order Office, a Savings Bank, and an Annuity and Insurance Office.

It was located at number 109 Pembroke Street, Devonport, where Miss Rosaline Gumm was the Post Mistress.  There was a Wall Post Box outside.

Letters were collected at 9am, 11.15pm, 1.10pm, 2.45pm, 4.40pm, 6.45pm, 7.35pm and at 9.10pm.  There was only one collection on a Sunday, at 6.10pm.

Delivery of letters from the General Post Office at Fore Street, Devonport, commenced at 7am and then at 12 Midday, 3.15pm, 5.30pm and 8.30pm.  On Sundays only the first delivery was made.
