FORD BRANCH POST OFFICE

In 1878 Ford Branch Post Office was at Mr Abraham Ford's newsagents and stationery shop at number 80 Alexandra Road. Mr Ford was also the Post Master and a letter carrier.

The nearest Money Order Office was then at Stoke Damerel Branch Post Office in Tavistock Street.

Letters were despatched to the General Post Office at Devonport at 7.50am, 5.10pm and at 8pm on weekdays and at 5.10pm only on Sundays.

 

In 1889 the Ford Branch Post Office was also a Money Order Office, a Savings Bank, and an Annuity and Insurance Office.

It was located at number 117 Alexandra Road, Ford, Devonport, and Mr John Ford, who lived next door, was the Post Master.

Letters were collected at 8.40am, 11.05pm, 1.05pm, 2.15pm, 3.45pm, 6.20pm, 7.10pm and at 8.30pm.  There was only one collection on a Sunday, at 5.40pm.

Delivery of letters from the General Post Office at Fore Street, Devonport, commenced at 7am and then at 12 Midday, 3.15pm, 5.30pm and 8.30pm.  On Sundays only the first delivery was made.
