THE ROYAL NAVY IN OLD DEVONPORT | ROYAL NAVAL BARRACKS | HMS "VIVID" GYMNASIUM
From a postcard. The top photograph shows the building that was presumably the Gymnasium between 1889 and 1906. Its location is not known but is has a striking resemblance, particularly in its length, to what was known as the "Drill and Stripping Shed" on the 1912 map of the Royal Dockyard and Royal Naval Barracks. This was to the west of the 1906 Gymnasium, shown below.
From a postcard. The lower of the two photographs above shows the building familiar to the author as the Gymnasium from when he used to attend Children's Christmas Parties there. This was presumably the building erected in 1906.
