Spanning The Camber in South Yard, which separated the original First Dock from the New Ground to its south, is still a cast-iron footbridge.  It is constructed in two equal halves and carries the date 1838 and the manufacturers name "Horsley Ironworks (1838) Near Near Birmingham".  Their works were at Tipton, Staffordshire.  The abutments are of granite and house cogged wheels turned manually by means of handles.

The Bridge, which was for pedestrians only, had ceased to function by 1975.

On the southern side of the Bridge was the Buoy House.

Under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and succeeding legislation the Swing Bridge now has Listed Building 2* status.
