Sail Loft Number 6 is thought to have been built in the Gun Wharf during the 1840s possibly as stables for the the gun carriage horses.  It is built of squared and coursed limestone ashlar with granite dressings and a hipped slate roof.  The arched carriage entrances on the southern side have been bricked up.  The interior is open plan.

Exactly when it became a Sail Loft is not known but it was recorded as used as such in 1975.

Under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and succeeding legislation Sail Loft Number 6 has Listed Building Grade 2 status.
