ROADS AND STREETS IN OLD DEVONPORT

VICTORIA TERRACE

Victoria Terrace was the first group of properties erected at the lower end of what became Victoria Road, Saint Budeaux.  It was and still is on the eastern side of Victoria Road, between Percy Street and Florence Street (formerly Florence Terrace).

At number 1 in 1914 was the groceries and provisions store of Messrs Underwood and Company (Plymouth) Limited, and the manager, Mr William Kent, lived next door at number 2.  The remainder of the properties were purely residential.

Victoria Terrace continued after Florence Terrace, as it was in 1914, with butcher, Mr R G Cuming, on the first corner and general dealer Mrs Perry next door 1t number 21.  At number 29, on the corner with Kathleaven Street, was Mr W G Johnstone, confectioner.  The remainder of the properties in that section were purely residential, although Mr R Harvey taught music at number 25.

On the opposite corner to Mr Johnstone was the Queen Victoria Masonic Hall and a further section of Victoria Terrace, ending with Messrs Blatchford and Roberts, general dealers, on the corner with Evelyn Street.

Opposite them, on the corner of the final part of Victoria Terrace, was another general dealers, that of Mr J T Northcott, and at the top of that section, at number 50, was Miss Townsend, draper.

The next block of properties after Lynher Street was Lynher Terrace.
