ROADS AND STREETS IN OLD DEVONPORT

SOUTH STREET

South Street ran northwards from Cumberland Street to Sydney Street, crossing Barrack Street and Market Street on the way up and back.

There were no prominent buildings in South Street but it was the location of Messrs Harris of Devonport Limited, seed merchants; the workshop of Messrs S A Perkins and Sons, builders; and the bakery of Messrs Owen and Sons Limited.

Of architectural interest was number 19 South Street,
with its slated front and unusual roof, February 1951.
Note the road signs and the pig swill bin.
