CALLINGTON BRANCH  |  BRANCH LINE, BERE ALSTON STATION TO CALLINGTON STATION

COCKING'S SIDING

It is claimed that Sand Hill Park Siding was 4 miles 63 chains from Bere Alston Station and Cocking's Siding was 4 miles 66 chains.  Although there is a short Siding on the Upside just before Sand Hill Park Siding, that does not tie up with the mileage given above and nor is there another siding shown immediately after Sand Hill Park Siding.  Unless the mileages are the wrong way around, then Cocking's Siding remains unidentified.

At the time of the Railway Clearing House "Hand Book of Railway Stations, etc." in 1929 it was known as Cocking's Siding and had no mechanical facilities.  Cocking's Siding was also included in the 1956 edition but there was also a Sandhill Park Siding (sic) for Messrs J Westcott Limited.  However, in the British Railways Southern Region Working Time Table which commenced on June 12th 1961 there was only the as Sand Hill Park Siding (sic).

It is not known what or who this Siding served.
