MORICE TOWN BRANCH POST OFFICE

In 1878 Morice Town Branch Post Office was located at number 16 William Street, where Mrs Mary Collins was the Post Mistress.

Letters were despatched to the General Post Office in Fore Street at 8.45am, 12.50pm, 6.15pm and 9pmon weekdays and at 6.15pmon Sundays.

There was a Wall Letter Box in Charlotte Terrace East cleared at 12.40pm and 5.50pm weekdays and 5.50pm on Sundays; and a Pillar Letter Box in Albert Road that was cleared at 8.45am, 12.50pm, 6pm and 9pm on weekdays and at 6pm and 9pm on Sundays.

 

In 1889 the Morice Town Branch Post Office was also a Money Order Office, a Savings Bank, an Annuity and Insurance Office and a Telegraph Office.

It was located at number 10 William Street, Morice Town, Devonport, where Miss Jane Hyne was the Post Mistress and stationer.

Letters were collected at 8.50am, 11.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.45pm, 4.40pm, 6.45pm, 7.35pm and at 9pm.  There was only one collection on a Sunday, at 6.15pm.

Delivery of letters from the General Post Office at Fore Street, Devonport, commenced at 7am and then at 12 Midday, 3.15pm, 5.30pm and 8.30pm.  On Sundays only the first delivery was made.
