THE NAVAL AND MILITARY RECORD AND ROYAL DOCKYARDS' GAZETTE

The first issue of The Naval and Military Record and Royal Dockyards' Gazette was published by the Western Morning News Company Limited at 31 George Street, Plymouth, on Wednesday April 14th 1886, although it was dated the following day.  In addition to its ordinary circulation, more than five thousand copies were to be forwarded free of charge by post to the officers of the Royal Navy and the army in various parts of the world.  It was advertised as 'The only penny service paper'.

The Record continued until the issue of November 12th 1936, after which it was amalgamated with The Army, Navy and Air Force Gazette to become, as from November 19th 1936, The United Services' Review.  From then onwards it was published in London until it ceased publication with the issue of September 28th 1939 although it re-appeared between 1942 and 1947.
