BURIAL GROUNDS AND CEMETERIES IN OLD DEVONPORT

The first Burial Ground in the Ancient Parish of Stoke Damerel was that at the Ancient Parish Church.  It was 4 acres 1 rood in extent and and by 1853 was fully occupied.

In 1871 a new Burial Ground was opened at Milehouse, later known as the Milehouse Cemetery.  It was consecrated in October 1876.

Finally the Weston Mill Cemetery was opened on Thursday November 10th 1904.  The first burial there took place on Saturday November 26th 1904.

In 1967 the Milehouse Cemetery was acquired by the Central Electricity Generating Board and the graves were removed to Efford Cemetery, Plymouth.
